"Zadie started school today with Zippora. She keeps talkin' about how she traded her orange for cookies. If I was the kid that traded the cookies I would think that was a bad trade, 'cause who would give up cookies for a dumb old orange? I think Zadie must have tricked him, but Zadie says it's because he likes her. Why does he like Zadie? He doesn't know Zadie. She's just my dumb older sister. I should tell him that she wet the bed 'cause then maybe he would think she was gross. Zadie is gross. She chews with her mouth open and she dribbles milk on the table."

"I'm starting to wonder if the sole reason I ever got my license was to cart Zelda around. Who knew a 15 year old had so many places to be? The most awkward is when she's making out with Isaac in the back seat. Like, why the fuck aren't one of them sitting in the front?! To top it all of, I'm the one who gets in trouble when she comes in with hickies all over her neck, like I have time to sit between them while operating a motor vehicle. I'm her older sister, not a baby sitter, and even if I was, I wouldn't want Isaacs open mouth pashing anywhere near me. They've only been going out for a few months, but this is getting ridiculous and I hope she gets rid of them soon. Zippora's wedding is on Sunday, and I surprisingly don't hate the dress. Dad's giving her away, if he cries like a little baby the way he did when Jon asked him if he could marry her, I'm getting up and leaving. So embarrassing.

"My gown is constricting. It flattens my lungs in a flat sheet, which makes for a cute look but it isn't cute enough for breathing. The crowd is almost dead silent and I can see my family sweating in the front row. Joel couldn't make it, but I'm sure he's listening to it from his car. I don't mind that he can't be here because it would just freak me out more, watching him sweat right along with my dark haired family. My extensions feel heavy and so do my earrings. There's no use wondering, if I answered all my questions right, or if I could have done more pre-stage crunches for swim suit. My hair couldn't be any bigger, my dress any glitzier. There's sweat on the lower part of my back and my feet are starting to hurt. These seconds are ticking by and god, I wish they wouldn't put us through this suspense. But that's my name. Zara Atwood, Miss Alamo, now Miss Texas USA. Needless to say as I step forward, I'm ecstatic. The crown is a weight my earrings could never match, and they shove flowers into my hands and dress me with a new sash. I'm glittering, preening, like the most beautiful peacock you've ever seen. This all happens before the crowd parts, and the announcer chuckles, and there's Joel down on one knee. My crown fell off when I ran to him.

Unknown Number (37) Missed Calls & Text Messages "Zara? Hi .. It's me again. Maybe you'd prefer if I called you Miss Atwood. I know you don't like being called Mrs. Marston. I don't blame you. I saw you with your husband once, he doesn't deserve you. Did he ever tell you you were beautiful? I could tell you you are beautiful. I'd tell you every night. I'd tell you every morning. Why won't you call me back? I just want to show you what you're worth, Zara. Please stop changing your number. Please. I'll come by your apartment tonight at 7. I want to take you to dinner. See you soon, Zara. I love you."
