MY CHILDHOOD IN MEMORIESI was the third born, coming after by older sister Sahara and Sabina. I don't remember the wedding of my parent's, but Sahara does. She was only six but it was her first wedding and she was the flower girl. She said it was blissful. The mutual happiness of Alani and Steve Olson, it's a legend. Sahara swears they were happy until they weren't, but I think they spent a lot of time in that honeymoon stage and when it broke, so did they. The happiness that I saw, it's posed. It exists in my mom's flower crown and my dad's mullet. By the time I enrolled in kindergarten, my dad had packed up and left the island for Jersey. My mom stayed in Hawaii to give us the childhood she envisioned us having and my dad opened a security business in Newark. When they spoke it was for our sake, and to arrange holidays. Other than that, my dad sent a check every month and my mom remained tight lipped about her marriage. She still hasn't remarried.
Unlike my mom (who swore off men after my father) my dad didn't say single for long. When I was eight he started seeing someone seriously. It was serious enough for us to rotate going to her house for dinner one night and his the next that summer. On Fridays we'd all go to the movies and have Pizza Hut for dinner. She had a daughter named Ava and we became like a family. I had a massive crush on Ava when I was eight, she was my first crush and I felt really badly because incest was wrong and I was sure I was being incestuous by having a crush on my dad's girlfriend's daughter.. who my sisters considered a sister.
My dad went out with Mrs. Anderson for eight years, which was almost as long as my mom and him. But I think something happens around year eight and the women just go off my dad, I haven't found out what it is yet. It was difficult, because unlike my parent's relationship which is unspoken between the two of them, this relationship blew up like wildfire. And even when I was seventeen (two years after the fact), my dad still passionately hated her and she him.
This was mainly difficult because of Ava. She was the highlight of my summer every summer, so that first July sans Ava Anderson was the most boring one yet. So I kept going for really long skates and throwing rocks at Ava's window, then proceeding to beg her to come out. Which she did after a few failed attempts (she's loyal as a dog). Even now that I don't spend summers in Jersey, I still like to make sure to see Ava. It's a tradition, after all.
Have you ever been in the type of love that seems like it'll be forever and ever. That you'll conquer it all and travel through memories by each other's sides? I don't think anyone should be in a relationship without pining for the forever part.. maybe it's because I'm still naive after Lainey, but I don't think you should waste anyone's time.
I thought Lainey was the love of my life. We met in grade six and I asked her out when we were seventeen. We lasted two and a half years. She was a bridesmaid at my sister's wedding - that's how close we all were. It was mostly good. We shared a lot of love and laughs, we grew together. But then.. I think, you know, I don't want to throw her under the bus. But to say that my heart was broken, that's an understandment. Lainey can do great things and she needs to believe in herself more. My first love and heartbreak.

I hate Ben Olsen. Kid thinks he's top shit and it's irritating. Everyone acts as though he's some sort of revelation for being the youngest on a world tour. I've known him since second grade and I can promise you that he's not a self-made super star, he's practically robbed his titles. Benny Olsen, World Champ. Give my a fucking break, dude.
- Daniel RussoI love Benny-boo! He may be taller and more
suave, but he's still the kid who split his pants during an ollie and had to cover his bum with his skate deck all the way home. Benny is warm and funny, a natural prankster and world class hugger. I can promise his fan girls that he is as genuine as he seems in videos. And you can bet he's single

LIKES the smell of the sea, fog, freckles, Korean barbeque, the colour blue, family, Narcos, firepit parties, summers in Jersey, warm nights, Monopoly meltdowns, Kaena (niece), a big surf, dogs, Banzai Pipeline, 5050 Skatepark in NYC, Corona & Lime, outdoors, shy girls, modesty, pot, mornings.
DISLIKES unproductive people, waking up late, the dentist, the doctor, coral reef, inability to grow facial hair, bitterness, girls who wear so much make-up they'd be sporting raccoon eyes after a surf, the gym, ginger, schoolwork.
