| SAMANTHA DIANE GARCIA . TWENTY-TWO . NEW ORLEANS BORN . WILLIAMSBURG LIVING . SNOBBY BARTENDER . DEGREE IN SOCIAL SCIENCES ............................................................................................... - Male dominated workplace - attractive "tom-boy" - interest in event coordinating - general snobbiness when it comes to alcohol (ex: would never date a man who settles for Coors Light instead of an artfully crafted beer) - can be found nursing a hangover with coffee - generally messy apartment - dislike/fear of commitment - excels at self-sabotage - more selfish than selfless - lacks sensitivity - ............................................................................................... SIGNIFICANT RELATIONSHIPS "Sammy was the most defining relationship, I think most first relationships are. We dated a long time before calling it official, it started as flirtations whenever she came over to hang out with Rhea but it officially began when we went to homecoming together. I love Sammy to pieces. She's perfect in so many ways - like she's amazing with my sister and I thought she brought out the best in people. But the longer we spent together the more she came apart and we drifted. THe opposite should have happened. She went to school in New York and it hurt a lot. It's terrible to say, but if she were to ever give me the time of day again, I'd take it."
"I met Samantha when she was working at some fancy bar near her college. I knew she was young, but I didn't realize that she was only twenty, she does carry herself a lot older. Sam's the type that could drink you under the table. She seemed carefree and easy. Near the end I could see her age shine through. She was very indecisive - she'd get frustrated when I'd leave the city for work without telling her but she'd get flighty if I suggested food or she'd get flustered if she stayed longer than intended. She couldn't decide what she wanted and I didn't expect a decision. I was fine with sex, it was great sex. We stopped calling each other."
"Sammy's the most frustrating person I've ever met. I used to go to the bar just to see and talk with her.. it's going to sound really fucking stalkery, but I had her schedule pretty well memorized. I finally got the guts to ask her out and she said yes, I couldn't believe the hot bartender said yes. It started so well but became sour quickly. I don't know what I did or said, but Sam became less herself and more hollow. I dunno if that makes sense. When I asked her what she wanted she said nothing. When I gave her an ultimatum, it went totally the other way. I can't drink Whiskey Sours anymore, they remind me too much of Sammy."
"Imagine my surprise when little ol' Sammy Garcia walked into the bar asking about a job! I think the first time I really respected my little brother was when he brought Sam home, what a knockout. Of course she got the job, no questions asked. She's a good barmaid too, gets shit done... At first I put us on a few of the same shifts so I could train her up, but in the end she knew her stuff and we would just get lost in catching up. She's a good girl. And yeah, ok, I shouldn't have fucked her. She's my brother's ex, things were still up in the air with Tara... but fuck, she's so hot. I've kept us on all the same shifts because she's good company, not just for the perks. Of course everyone knows we're fucking, but what are they gonna do? Report it to a tribunal? One of my favorite things to do is make her do all the shitty jobs when she's playing hard to get, then when she flirts I'll get Lisa or Callum to cover them. We're about as subtle as a sledgehammer but so what, it's a good time."
............................................................................................... "I have always been too polite to bring up Sammy's mom.. actually too nervous, but also it's rude to look into anyone's business. Sammy and I have been best friends since we were in diapers, but I've never met her mom or heard about her until we were fourteen. From what I gathered, Sam's mom got pregnant when she was a teenager and left when she was not old enough to remember. Sam had a picture which I can vaguely recall - her mom was really pretty. Her dad was incredible when I think about it now, he was so tuned into Sammy that I don't think he dated anyone till she left... I'm not sure if he even has now. When Facebook became a thing, Sammy became really interested in finding her mom. We sat in the library for hours sifting through all the Maria Gonsalves - there are loads, by the way.. it's the most typical Latin name you can find. We never found her on Facebook but eventually Sammy's dad reluctantly gave her her mom's details. I think he knew what was going to come from it, but he also knew that she wasn't going to give up. I don't have the full story but I gathered that her mom didn't want anything to do with her. I really felt for Sammy, I can't understand how anyone can do that." - Natalie King, Childhood Best Friend ...............................................................................................
