M I R R E N I mean I've dreamt of coming to NYU for forever so, still kind of surreal. But also still kind of settling in so, much to be figured out. How have you...been?

E. Howe The first year is for adjusting and like you said, boring reqs. I've been fine. Busy, of course. How's Matthew? And Melissa.

[mirren hewitt]

M I R R E N And making friends and meeting people, duh. You've always been very busy. Matt's good, happy it's hockey season again. Melissa's fine too, haven't seen her much either. Also always very busy.

E. Howe Oh, sure, all that too. The real work has begun, at least. Glad they're well, I've seen Matthew around a few times. Melissa and I are friends, I guess, but we never see each other.

M I R R E N College is an important balance of social and educational gains, as my mother would say. Syllabus week is probably pretty chill for teachers too, huh? Well, that's nice to hear, too. Could have been you messing with Brightspace for a vendetta or something if it wasn't amicable ;)

E. Howe Sounds about right. She works at Merck, am I remembering that right? Haha maybe if you were Matt. But no, it's alright, there was no bad blood. At least you two are still together.

M I R R E N Pfizer, she's got credit on their COVID vaccine. Very polarizing to some Americans, the absolute legend! Haha he's on the Sport Med track anyway, dodging Chemistry like the plague. I'll keep him around, though. Do you think NYU will send out a note or something about the grades?

E. Howe That's awesome. I was still in undergrad when that all happened, felt like the chem olympics. Well there goes another convert. No, don't expect anything from the school, it seemed specific to this class. If it happens again I'll notify someone.

M I R R E N Didn't see her for a long time but had to save the world, nbd. Maybe Prof. Angelo's starting to lose it already.

E. Howe Why do you say that?

[mirren hewitt]

M I R R E N My mom kind of knows him in the industry, said he can get really fixated on things and kind of freaks when people don't understand his concepts or tries to argue them. I mean, you've heard him get patronizing in class lately, right? Maybe something made him spiral.

[everett howe]

E. Howe I wish I could say most chemists aren't megalomaniacs like that. I didn't know him very well before this class, so I don't know his baseline. Do other students think this?

[mirren hewitt]

M I R R E N They just think he's like, an evil chemist or something. The context I got kind of helps, I sometimes try to figure out which soapbox he feels like standing on and avoid trying to take any shortcuts on those problems, even if my mom can point one out. I'd probably get like, a -15. He seems to just take things personally.

E. Howe Sure, I could see that. I guess I'm jaded, I'm used to these types. But he does treat it like a weeder class which I don't find necessary since none of you are STEM majors. Hopefully my lecture let everyone breathe a little.

M I R R E N Some teachers are hard asses just to be hard asses and call themselves academics - but idk. The fact that my mom said something was interesting, that's all. Yeah, you were great. It was like...a normal class for once. A Friday reprieve.
