KENDRA Days for work, days for inspiration. It's a strange place for me to be work wise, too, but home is home. Where do I like to be? New York, usually. Or somewhere where I don't have to speak to anyone aside from ordering cocktails. You? Lemme guess, anywhere with sand and water.

Benicio Exactly. Away from New York, it's PR. I did spend a summer in Colombia, that was nice. I like warm and beautiful, what can I say.

KENDRA Warm blooded and beautiful apply, too?

Benicio Absolutely. When I think of LA I think of you.

KENDRA Well then I need to do this tour justice, as LA's top representative. A little sand and a little sangria to start.

Benicio Show me your favorite places, I'm sure I'll like what you like. Beach and sangria will always get me.

KENDRA Tell me three things you enjoy and I’ll work them in. I like things to be mutually beneficial.

Benicio I think I'm a simple guy. If the beach and drinks are covered, I would put in for dancing, music of course, and maybe going for a drive.

KENDRA All easily arranged. Now tell me - are you the type to put on the songs you worked on to listen to?

[benicio otero]

Benicio I will listen to my own music, yes. But when I hear it I think of the process, the memories, how to improve it. If you could pick my songs out of a playlist I'd be impressed.

KENDRA I know a few you’re credited on. Others I’d just cheat and look at the song credits, memorize the first few notes. Easier that way!

Benicio Don't worry, it's harder with producers. You can even quiz me. What do you like to listen to anyway?

KENDRA What made you want to produce? I feel like everyone reaches for the mic they second they might have a chance. Depends on the day and the experience, sometimes I just put on Spotify Discovery and let it go. See what speaks to me.

Benicio I like writing and producing more, and using other peoples' voices more. It might sound cheesy but I started because I wanted to listen to music that didn't exist yet. I had to go make it. I like that, I listen to a lot too. I won't be an aux hog unless you want me to.

KENDRA It's like authors - they write what they want people to read, too. The unsung heroes are often those that produce the work. We can share, I'm good at that. Sometimes.
