JANIE What’s your favorite course of a meal, you would say? Appetizer, entree, dessert. Rank them and why.

O S C A R Main. Yours is dessert, obviously. OK, entree, because that's really what everything should be structured around. Appetiser is foreplay, dessert is aftercare. Give me the main deal every time.

JANIE It is. I feel like an appetizer does set the scene though. It's the first bite somewhere or from someone new - are you excited for what's coming next suddenly, does it intrigue you? Is it surprising? Desserts will just never do you wrong.

O S C A R I love the whole meal, don't get me wrong. You want the whole experience and just having a main isn't gonna cut it. But that's what I mean, a good appetiser tees you up, and a decent dessert rounds it out, but the entree has got to hit just right.

JANIE Do you find if an entree is a letdown, the other courses get spoiled?

O S C A R You can redeem it a bit with dessert but nah, I think you've lost it if the entree doesn't deliver. Do you disagree?

[jane ridley]

JANIE No, I very much agree. Especially because I may love a true dessert course, metaphorically it's not my favorite. A lot of variables.

O S C A R Dessert is the most optional course imo. You need the appetiser to wet your appetite, get into what's to come.

[jane ridley]

JANIE Maybe that course drags too, and by the time the entree comes you're starving but knew it was worth the wait.
