"To say that my brother and I are close would be a grave understatement. We're twins, and quite honestly, he's the only man I can abide. He's a driven academic, but also possesses a creative flair. He's brash and vain, but I'm the vengeful one, the one who stirs up controversy. Samson is very measured in his way, and whilst he's friendly enough, there exists a great distance between him and his emotions. I'm impulsive, he's thoughtful. I'm aloof, he's down to earth. We're really very similar, but I think it manifests itself differently.
The thing we share most vehemently is a devotion to our mother. Natasha McEwen remains in Texas, where she has a thriving bakery business that was initially funded by our father. They split when Sam and I were in our very early teens, and immediately it was clear that we were taking sides-- her's, specifically. It's not that daddy did anything to make us side so strongly, other than fail to be her. She's the kindest person in the whole world. She has three little girls with her new husband - Zara, Selina, and Giselle - and Sam is fiercely protective of them.
Sam is also fiercely protective of me. I have only ever loved one man, and though there are doubters, I know he loved and loves me back. He couldn't help his fits of rage, and whilst I knew that they were merely directed at me through chance and not intent, Samson didn't see it that way. The second time he saw me with a bruise, I could see it in his eyes that he wasn't going to sit back and take it. It was at daddy's second wedding that he attacked my poor boyfriend, and landed him in hospital.
Daddy paid him off, but honestly, I wanted Sam to go to jail. Good intentions or not, he hurt the only man I've ever loved, and drove him away from me. There was a time my brother was the only person in the world I trusted, and it's taking a lot for us to work back to that point. I don't care that he thought he was doing the right thing, he should have kept out."

Ah, my step mom. As you might be able to tell, she's a little bit younger than my dad. Same age as me, in fact. People like to make a big deal of it, as if beautiful young women haven't been marrying rich old guys since the dawn of time.
My thoughts? I feel bad for her. It's a mercenary transaction, her life and looks in exchange for a slice of his fortune. Maybe I only think this way because I've never known a life without wealth, but it strikes me that she was drastically short changed. But it's a deal she signed up to, so evidently she valued my father's money more highly than I did-- or maybe just undervalued herself.
My mother is an extremely talented entrepreneur... as was my father, but he didn't also raise a family. My mom was the only real influence I remember growing up, even though both Sylvia and I moved in with dad for the thrill of being in New York City. We also wanted mom to enjoy her newfound freedom, since being my dad's wife is honestly no fun. But my point is that both my parents are workers. I study medicine, my sister studies veterinary medicine. We are a family of high achievers.
Judith is just another of my father's achievements. It never occurred to him that she might have goals or dreams or hopes of her own, and I frankly don't blame him for assuming that - if she had a dream beyond getting rich quick, she was certainly quick to abandon it. Her lingerie line is a vanity project, and truthfully, I don't think she's ever had a shred of ambition in her life. I try not to judge people, and clearly this isn't medically sound, but it does feel like her total failure at life might be contagious. I avoid her where I can.
