Jeremiah and I met when I was nearing the grand age of twenty one. My friends and I were taking a break from our pre-medical examinations, just to have a fun girls night. Our oldest friend out of the group, Jessie, promised that she could get us into a bar even though we were mostly underage. One of her best guy friends was a fill in bouncer that night. We ended up getting in, free of charge and no stamp on our hands. All of the girls headed straight towards the bar except for me, I followed behind but not too far. I hadn't planned on drinking tonight because of the huge end of the course exam we would be having in a couple days. The studying was stressing me out and as much as I wanted to drink I knew it wasn't going to help me. I was tucking a few strands of my hair behind my ear when a voice I wasn't familiar with spoke from behind me. He commented on my evening outfit, a black romper that had a daring, sleek and open center. I wasn't a shy girl but the look of him made me intimidated. I had always been taught not to accept drinks from people you didn't know well but I couldn't say no to the million dollar smile perked on his face. After he bought me the first drink, we chatted for a few minutes before one of my friends pulled me away. Even from our separate parts of the bar, we couldn't stop looking at each other. Jessie, the so-called leader of the group, decided it was time to take our leave and he stopped me on the way out. He politely asked for my number, not even knowing my name but willing to take the chance. I reluctantly gave him my number and expected it to be the final time of seeing. Turns out he was truly interested, Jeremiah CALLED me the next day asking if I was up for coffee. Having been a little nervous, he made me feel totally comfortable. The conversation flew beautifully, I couldn't stop laughing at some of the silly things he was saying to me. We took dating a little slow since he was a few years older than me (he was most certainly shocked that I wasn't even 21 yet) and was applying to law schools. My parents were more than pleased when they discovered Jer's 'ivy league roots.' Dad went to school with his father at Harvard and Mom had met his mother a few times at group societal meetings. It only seemed right for the two of us to date. Things got serious, but at a very slow pace. We vacationed together, spent all hours with each and even spoke of marriage occasionally. I was utterly surprised when he got down on one knee during our family Thanksgiving. Atlas' face was beyond shocked and my mother shed a few tears. Jeremiah and I were not shy of public display of affection, however I noticed that when I tried to reach for his hand he would pull away. Our kisses were short and brief. I tried to do the reasonable thing any girl would do, buy a dog for the two of us. Jeremiah seemed pleased with the idea of the dog at first because slowly his attention decreased from the dog. Whenever I tried to talk to him he complained about being stressed with law school and the pressure from his dad. It seemed like there was nothing I could do to keep his attention towards me for a couple hours. Jeremiah wasn't stressed, he grew bored of me. What he didn't grow tired of was my friend Diana. It should've come as a shock but I took the news gather well. I sought out Jeremiah when I heard the rumor and gave him the family heirloom he gave me. I spoke a few words about how ashamed I was to aware it and that Diana deserved to wear it around her chubby finger.
