anonymous asked: when did you start drawing? Age 7? I was that kid in the back of the classroom doodling on my assignments instead of completing them. trishcollins asked: what exactly is teamcozy and how did it even come together? your work is badass by the way! Thanks! TeamCozy is basically a bunch of guys who are mostly self taught artists and comfort enthusiasts. We love sneakers, painting, drawing, video, photography, music, web design, and all things cozy. I started it with my friend DJ Zayn when I moved to Oakland, CA at eighteen. At that time he was creating his music and I was designing his posters, taking photos, sharing our work on the internet and eventually creating street art around the city. It started off in the East Bay and then gradually grew. Now we're a team of ten and we come from all over the world. Our main office is in Brooklyn, New York. Our first art gallery event will be on January 30th, and our apparel collection consisting of lounge and streetwear, will launch late March, so look out. Thanks for all the support! sleepingwolves asked: i think i saw you guys shooting in london last month? i was too scared to stop by! Hah, don't ever be afraid to come over and say hey. But yes, a few of us gathered for the opening of the store size? on Carnaby Street. We did a little shoot there too, and then headed over to one of my favorite spots to shoot, which is Leake Street. katie_rose asked: omg don't tell me you are a serious arsenal fan?! Giirrrll, don't hate on my team! anonymous asked: i remember seeing a few pictures on your instagram with rihanna a couple weeks go. how did you meet her?! are you two dating? I met her through Wiz. And I would love to date that gorgeous fucking woman, but alas, no. )':

We were just a bunch of kids from shit neighborhoods who were interested in comfortable footwear and clothing. It was a combination of the fashion aesthetic and exploring our cities. None of us grew up with much, but we saved all our money for cameras and to sport the best tech fleece and flyknits. I know it sounds kind of dumb, but it was kind of the embodiment of team cozy. It was practical, comfortable, had a technical form and whether we were out playing music or shooting all day and night, it always kept us comfortable. Tell us about your history in photography and other areas of art: When I was a kid I never got much sleep. Most nights I was kept up by my parents, a drug addict and a felon. They were always at each other over one thing or another, and a lot of those nights i'd just sneak out my window and walk around my neighborhood in San Jose. You have to understand, I lived near Sureño gang territory, so it was pretty fucking dumb of me to be out late and by myself. Especially at twelve years young. Sometimes a bloody lip or a black eye got me to stay in, but my parents fighting soon became unbearable and I rather liked the thrill of being out on my own. I always had my camera with me, a Canon I stole from my uncle Lorenzo. I learned quick how to take photos at night, and spent a lot of the night and early mornings capturing moments in my environment. Photography was a way for me to express myself, and it also kept me clean and out of trouble most of the time. And like a lot of people, I never got formal training. And honestly, I think that's the best way.
Before photography though, I had drawing. It was my first creative outlet and got me into less trouble than photography. I did get detention a few times though, for drawing inappropriate photos as answers to tests or on homework assignments. But as I got older, it, like photography, became an obsession of mine. I was constantly trying to improve, try new styles, and entered into contests any chance I could get. When my twin siblings, Josie and Jamie were born, my free time started to diminish. My mother knew nothing of being a mother, and by that time my father was back in prison. I spent most of my time taking care of them, and though it was rough, they also inspired me. They were literally the happiest babies I ever saw, and every time they smiled or giggled after spitting out their food on me, I saw hope. If these little humans could remain happy even in chaos, I knew i'd get through it somehow too. And when I hit my senior year in high school, one of my projects containing them helped get me into Camberwell. Even though I dropped out after two years, I found it to be a great experience as I learned about different types of art, and the time away gave me a chance to learn a bit more about myself as well.
