“WHAT GOOD IS THE WARMTH OF SUMMER, WITHOUT THE COLD OF WINTER TO GIVE IT SWEETNESS.”
"My grandparents must have been psychic when they named my dad Caesar. He shares a lot of traits with his namesake; he's ambitious, he's confident, he's popular and he's clever. He's also power hungry, manipulative and arrogant beyond belief, to the point of blindness. I'm his only son (that we know of) so I was always going to be compared to him, but honestly, I think I hit maybe two or three of that list? I'm confident, sure, and I have plenty of friends, and I guess I'm not an idiot. But realistically, I'm like the meme version of him - the Caesar McCarthy you ordered off Wish.
Caesar, like my aunt Athena and my uncle Cassius, has a gravitational pull. The second he enters a room he's the focus of it, not just in the office but in restaurants, stores, or fuck, even at home. There's a gravitas to my father that comes with power and wealth, yes, but it also radiates out of him like a nuclear reactor. I'll never be that guy. There are things I emulate, sure, like his ease with people, and his natural egalitarian approach - despite the silver spoon in his mouth, he's always treated all people equally and he actively hates how much my sister doesn't. That I got. But I don't want to suck all the oxygen out of every room I walk into, I don't want to use charm and charisma to subtly play people against each other. Without meaning to or even seeing himself do it, Caesar plays with everyone around him, and inevitably he sometimes breaks his toys.
I think he's missing some fundamental part of life, some core essence of what it means to be a person. It's my main priority to figure out what that is so I don't go the same way."
“I WONDER HOW MANY PEOPLE I'VE LOOKED AT ALL MY LIFE AND NEVER SEEN."

“AND NOW THAT YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE PERFECT, YOU CAN BE GOOD."
"I've worked for this company for twelve years, my best years. I've given up weekends and evenings, forwent my kids' dance recitals and PTA meetings, all to be as present as possible for my job. I don't mind that, I expected it with this kind of firm. Sorry, what was your question again-- how is it having a twenty-five year old as my boss? It sucks ass, dude, obviously. It's a fucking joke! There's nepotism and then there's having your college dropout son land straight into a C-suite job, with about 4 years of work experience total. How would you feel?
Having said that, I don't hold Tate responsible, not really. He's a kid. For how insanely privileged he is, walking around the office with a watch that costs what most people spend on a years rent, he's actually a nice guy. At least has the decency to seem embarrassed in our meetings, and has the humility to defer to us. I'd kill myself if he was some jumped up asshole actively telling me how to do my job. It's obvious that he has a lot of help, not just from dear old dad but from all the directors, as well as all his family contacts. His stepdad is the President of JPMorgan, for fucks sake, and his grandad's some kind of old money oil tycoon. So at least he listens to whatever advice he's being given. It's a joke, yeah, but that's life. Some people get to be born Tate McCarthy, the rest of us have to work."
