| dane carter fitzgerald "FITZY" twenty six & right wing for new york rangersTHE DEALson duties
My parents divorced when I was twelve years old, my brother sixteen. Mom moved out immediately and she settled in a place thirty minutes away. She said she would’ve gone farther had it not been for our schooling. They would have fun or two weeks, then switch. Repeating that cycle, over and over again. It wasn’t all that bad until Dad injured his back at work and Mom remarried Thomas. Mom moved two hours away, and that left us with no choice but to primarily live with Dad. Hockey had been a part of my life since I was young, I think my brother shielded me from a lot of the shit that went down with my father. Dad owned a body shop, but once he was injured he owned every single liquor he could get his hands on. Kyle always helped Dad out, because I was preoccupied with hockey. Once the alcohol consumed Dad, Kyle took over responsibilities. He eventually filled me in; soon enough the days and nights that weren’t dedicated to hockey were given to the body shop. Mom wasn’t clued in though. And we were going to keep it that way. She’d spent almost twenty years of her life taking care of the little messes my father made and we were going to have to figure this out ourselves. Kyle encouraged me to go to college. After all, not everyone gets a full ride to Boston College to play hockey. Especially since my parents could've afford to send us to such a prestigious school. I guilty though, still do. We made a deal though. Kyle would run the business until I was out of college. Once my four years were up, I’d come run the business while he had his bit of freedom. Neither of us expected my hockey career to be as successful as it had been. Or is to this day. My senior year I should’ve been declaring myself eligible, looking for agents, checking out teams but instead I avoided any conversation my coach had of these topics. When Kyle needed a break, I’d come home on weekends. But still did my fair share of partying at BC. Kyle got engaged to his long time girlfriend Darcy and I felt all the pressure on my shoulders. They were talking about their wedding plans, and traveling to Europe - when their end of the bargain was up. It was after Boston College won the Frozen Four that our deal changed. Coach Jensen went to my dad’s house in Quincy and caught him at a sober moment. Told him of my talent, that I would be throwing away a huge opportunity and offered him the chance to go to an intense rehab program. Dad took the offer and soon after Kyle sold the business. We both were free.THE REAL DEALhome vs the unknownUltimately I chose the Rangers because I needed some space from Boston. Mom, Kyle and I decided it was the safest choice and would put a lot of distance between Dad whenever he was out of his intense program. It was the best decision I've ever made. I miss Boston but New York is home these days. The team is amazing and I've met some of greatest friends through joining this squad. I still get together with the old BC boys too. We're all scattered throughout the US. THE WOMENin different cities

THE VOICEMAIL from dad
"Daney boy. I know you're getting these messages. Return my fucking calls. I just need 1600 dollars. I know you can spare me that. I'm your father after all. Everything I sacrificed for your precious hockey life. You owe me. I'm giving you two days. If you don't return this call then Im calling your mother. You wouldn't want that now would you? Call. Me. The. Fuck. Back."
