ANOTHER RECKLESS ROTHCHILD "Following in the footsteps of his father Franklin, Dean Rothchild is known to be a hotheaded lawyer. He joined the group at Rothchild & Thatcher after his departure from Columbia University Law School. Sources say Dean was seen arguing with Franklin outside of The Criminal Court building off Centre street. Dean exited the premises and gave what looked like the middle finger to his father before disappearing into the crowd. Dean hasn't been seen in court lately or going in and out of the Rothchild & Thatcher office. What is happening here?" - New York Daily News report on Dean Rothchild THE COLUMBIA COVER UP It’s no secret my father has a lot of power and influence. Going to Columbia was always the plan for me, following in my dad’s footsteps. Franklin did undergraduate and earned his Juris Doctor four years later at the same university. We both were thrilled when I got my acceptance letter and spoke often of the future we’d most likely have together at his firm - Rothchild & Thatcher, LLP. While he went the more traditional route of college - partying, studying and more partying, I went a different one. I joined the fraternity Sigma Chi. It was known on the college campus as being the party fraternity, and we had a really good time always. Until some serious things occurred. We dabbled in a little bit of everything - Coke, MDMA, Xanax, you name it. The formal special we called it, mixing alcohol and Xanax. We were pregaming with the girls we’d asked to accompany us to formal. I was doing a few lines with my date and my buddy, my dealer Dakota had really hooked me up for the weekend. It was our last formal of the year, which tended to be the more rowdy of ones. For several of the guys including myself, this was our last hurrah. I’d be attending law school in the fall and they’d be graduating and starting real world jobs. I come out of the bathroom and find Matty on the ground with everyone surrounding him. His best friend Tom was shouting at him and searching for a pulse. I know what this is, even in my drug mind state I can see he’s overdosed. Maybe in Xanax and the alcohol alone but I supplied the “fun” drugs. I’m too frozen on the spot to even do anything. One of the dates was a nursing major so she yells for someone to call 911 and begins giving him compressions. Tom calls 911 while several others of the group slowly start to leave. Me included. What do I do? Call Franklin. He tells me to run, get away from the situation and to tell him everything once I’m a decent distance away, then I confess. Franklin sounds frantic, though I told him we called 911 and some random girl was doing CPR. He asks me not to speak of anything and to head to the formal as if nothing happened. Matty died, following the overdose and the fraternity was put on probation. We didn’t even get to have the formal because the police were called to the house and the acting leaders were made aware. Emails and texts were sent out cancelling the event. It was investigated and determined an accidental overdose. I waited to be interviewed, thrown under the bus for being the supplier but it never came. I know Franklin must have paid people off, kept a lot of them silent so that I could continue with the future we’d planned for. It’s forever our little secret. THE PROBLEM DEAN & NORA We use to be a pair, my younger sister and I. Back when nothing mattered and we had no concept of our parent’s money or lifestyle. She’s three years younger than I am. It’s also bothered her that I’m the obvious favorite of my dad. I think the Rothchild children come out of the womb wanting to impress our father, knowing our mother is nothing but a plastic surgery craving homemaker. He provided for us, we see what his name brings and we’ve all been desperate for his attention. Even our youngest brother Conor wants all the love that Franklin can give, which is very limited. Nora has expressed to me that she feels like she lives in my shadow. That Franklin doesn’t see anything but me and if I’m being honest, I know it’s true. He’s paved this path for me since the day he found out our mother was having a first born son. Anyone or child that came after would be forgotten. I would take over the firm, owner of the Darien Estate and more. Nora doesn’t believe it’s fair, even if it’s how our life is going to always be. Our parent’s relationship blew up when my dad’s long time affair was broadcasted to the world. The tabloids and online gossip websites took a lot of pride in reporting the downfall of the golden family. Soon it was their separation and now it’s of my father’s new bundle to joy along the way. I’ve started reaching out more, especially since I’m on a work release. Franklin’s knocked me from the pedestal of his golden boy since my incident in court. I had no one, still honestly prefer to be alone. But something told me to lean on Nora. She’s slowly let me in to her life - introducing me to her friends (which she regrets now that I’ve become close with them), having weekly dinners, FaceTimes with Conor and the two of us. Does she sense my problem? Maybe. Does she say anything? No. We’ve not been super honest with each other despite us trying to rebuild our sibling relationship. It’s a work in progress I suppose one would say. THE LIFESTYLES OF A GOLDEN BOY |
